I happily greet the arrival of Gulls each spring. Their arrival to me means the ice will soon breakup, the snow will soon melt and I will soon be complaining about the heat!

The Spruce Grouse normal defense is to stand perfectly still. Their colours blend with the background. Often you will pass within feet and never see one – unless their caught, as this hen was, in the open. Then it’s defense is to pose for the camera.
